Amita, born 1972 at Rourkela- Orissa, is now based in Ludhiana- Punjab. She studied Fine Arts from Bangiya Sangeet Parishad- West Bengal. She is also trained in Bharatanatyam
Amita had an adequate exposure to Art since childhood which enriched her thought process naturally, as those practices were part of daily life. She has been showcasing her works in several group shows and has participated in state level & National level shows, camps and solo exhibitions. Her concepts are inspired by real life experiences, human emotions, social issues and nature. She works in various mediums, especially watercolours & acrylics. Her experiments with texture have lead to the development of an individual style during a long creative journey. Humanity, life and nature have been her most favourite themes. She has been teaching Fine Arts since 1998. She is running ‘Creative Arts Institute’, an art school in Ludhiana, Punjab to promote various art forms (fine arts, vocal classical, Bharatanatyam, Western dance & guitar).
The works of Amita are a blend of the artistic thought, love of nature and the handful experience of treating the canvases. Her works depict the human figures in their amalgamation to their social being and also the vastness of nature and probably the desire and possibility of the human mind and entity to go beyond the social setups and limitations. “Bamboos” painted by her have always been the symbol of strength, longevity, collectivity and beauty. The use of basic colours in their softness highlights these ideas.
Amita believes that she lives through her art and colours. Her works are in collection with various hotels (The Tea Lounge – Taj Palace, New Delhi, and others), investors & as private collections ( International Actor / Writer Nandana Sen and others).
She has also ventured into curating Art Exhibitions. She curated the Art Exhibition “Art & The City “, in Ludhiana in April at Sutlej Club. 29 renowned artists from all over India had participated in this exhibition.
